On September 25, 1928, Paul V Galvin and his brother, Joseph incorporated Motorola’s founding company- Galvin Manufacturing Corporation, in Chicago USA. Ever since then, Motorola has grown to become a large business group especially in the field of telecommunication. Motorola is a telecommunications company based in Schaumburg, Illinois. It is into the business of manufacturing wireless telephone handsets and also designing and selling wireless network infrastructure equipment such as cellular transmission base stations and signal amplifiers.

Motorola has been present in India since 1987. It was one of the first telecom companies to enter India with its headquartered in Gurgaon, Haryana. With sales offices in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore, Motorola has got two VLSI design centers in Delhi and Noida and a Research & Development Center in Bangalore and Hyderabad.

Motorola enjoys the No. 2 position in handset sales in India with a market share of 14%. The past two years, Motorola has launched a slew of trendy handsets at many price levels. It is also setting up a handset-making unit in Chennai. Motorola is keeping pace with its competitors in most of the top end markets. But unlike Nokia, Motorola has not started aggressively pursuing mass markets like rural consumers in India. Still the price range of Motorola phones has seen increasing and one of the most successful launch has been the Motoyuva phones targeting the youth segment.
